Why a Bible Study Junkie?
I am going to be the first to admit that while I love Jesus and try to live a glorifying life for Him, I am not the best or most consistent in reading or studying my Bible. Only recently over the last few months have I been consistently in the Word. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE when I’m reading my Bible, and I feel connected to Christ and more peace in my life. But then, something, anything, literally everything else gets in the way. And I put it off, or forget, and next thing I know, I’m only opening my Bible during church or Bible study, and then it’s been half a year since I’ve read on my own.
Please tell me I’m not alone in this!!
My main struggles with reading my Bible is that I don’t know where to start or I wonder what I’m supposed to be gleaning or learning and things of that nature. Can I get an amen? So I thought to myself… what if I can bring together a community of people who read the Word together? I believe there is strength in numbers (and accountability). If we can just begin and realize that we aren’t alone in the struggle, just think how spending time with God each day could change our lives. I’m not talking health, wealth, and prosperity… I’m talking peace, joy, and comfort; those things which are promised in God’s Word.
What is a Bible Study Junkie?
When you think of the word junkie, you might think of something with a negative connotation, such as someone with a drug or alcohol addiction. But if you continue reading through the definitions, you really get to something worthwhile. According to dictionary.com; a junkie is also “2. A person with an insatiable craving for something, and 3. An enthusiastic follower, fan, or devotee.”
It is in those definitions that this idea is derived. I want to be a person who cannot go one day without opening God’s Word, a person who is craving that closeness with my Lord, a person who is devoted and faithful to spend time with my Savior. I’m not that person yet, and maybe you aren’t either, but I think we should at least try.
I’m not claiming to know everything. I do have a Bible degree and a heart that wants to do more for Christ (and help others do the same). I also have my Bible, the thoughts that God gives me, and hopefully, good conversation with this community I’m hoping to grow.
I hope to post several times a week, but I’m only human with a husband and a baby girl, so we will see what really happens!
I pray that you join me on this journey to become a Bible Study Junkie.
